Model Lesson Plan

Type of Differentiated Instruction with Short Description
Concept Development
Flexible Grouping: The teacher may pick the groups that the students work in, in order to put students of the same level or different levels together, or to allow students to pick their own groups so that they are able to work with a mix of their peers.
Cooperative Learning
Flexible Grouping: The teacher can pick the groups for the debate, in order to put students of the same level together (or different levels), or the teacher will allow the students to pick their own groups so that they are able to work with a mix of their peers.
Choice-Integrative
Multiple Levels of Questioning/Flexible Grouping: The teacher will ask the students multiple questions, all of different levels in order to give each student the opportunity to answer a question and participate in the discussion. The teacher will also allow for flexible grouping so that students of the same level or different level can work with one another.
Inquiry
Multiple Levels of Questioning: The teacher will structure questions based on student readiness and encourage all students to ask/answer follow up questions. The questions will vary in their level, but there will be questions to challenge all students regardless of their level.

Lee's Differentiation
I have structured several assignments that Lee will feel comfortable with, but will still continue to challenge her. Since Lee has trouble coming up with essay prompts, I have given prompts for all of the essays that she must write. Because she also does not care for essay questions that start with "What do you think..." I have structured the essays so that they first focus on the facts, which she will do well on, and then ask her about what she thinks. I have also asked for supporting statements from sources which will allow her to structure her opinion based on the facts. While Lee does not enjoy projects, I am certain that she will enjoy our debate where she will have to investigate to find factual information to support her debate topic. The topic of the debate is assigned, as is the side of the argument. However, she will later have to decide which side she believes is correct, although she must use evidence given during the debates. While Lee will certainly have a comfort zone, she will be challenged and pushed to make her comfort zone somewhat wider through all of the assignments.
